Photographed over approximately 5 days, the pictures feature fellow passengers and views from the train, Bakersfield, CA, and three of California’s iconic national parks: Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia. The National quite literally embodies Amtrak’s motto: “See where the train can take you”. Celebrating the romance of cross-country travel, the magazine shows its five million-plus readers the real breadth of the US, from the people transforming cities to the companies revitalising manufacturing, plus the subcultures the news ignores. Personal stories and poems, photo essays and artwork make a compelling case for exploring the country by train.
